James 5:16b The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
According to Romans 3, Righteousness is attained by believing what God says. With that being said, then a righteous and fervent prayer, is a prayer that is filled with believing what God says. Great prayer is filled with the word of God. The prayer of the believer doesn't always start this way. Infact we see that David's prayer life began sometimes with hopelessness, depression & personal hurts. Though prayer can begin in this way, what's important is that a believer brings their authentic expressions to God. This a foundational principle for prayer. Yet the goal of the believer should be to have a prayer life that is filled with the word. In prayer we have an opportunity to share our most intimate expressions with the Master, yet we also have the opportunity to take God at His word and remind Him of His covenant. Hallelujah What a privilege.
